"To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment." - Ralph Waldo Emerson

The things that have angered me quite recently has been the national news,  newspaper articles and TV adverts on how much it costs the NHS on treating those people who are “obese” (I hate that word, (known as ‘O’ in the rest of this site) along with the word “fat”).  We “fat/obese” people are costing the government, millions of pounds for being overweight.    It has been reported on the news that 'O' costs the National Health Service at least half a billion pounds a year in patient care and two billion pounds to the wider economy, for example in sickness absence.  Apparently, it’s not the bad management of the hospital administration staff for not managing their budgets, but those of us who are overweight for their dwindling costs.  Talk about adding further pressure on us.  There was no talk until recently, about helping the 'O'.

In the same report apparently doctors are reluctant to invest time and energy into managing obesity.  The reason for this is that some doctors don't accept or understand obesity as a serious disease, which by all means, can be treated.   The other reason is lack of resources from the NHS.   It’s amazing that the government bend over backwards to help those people who smoke (and I’m not knocking smokers), but there are adverts to help those to give up smoking, clinics, patches from chemists etc.  The government will only offer this help to smokers because it is most beneficial to keep the smokers sweet by still providing the same cigarettes that are killing them and why?  Because they get millions of pounds from the revenue of the cigarettes.  Even alcoholics use their fare share of resources within the NHS, which I might add is also self-inflicted, but there is not much noise coming from those above about 'wasted' resources there.  Why does money always become a big issue when trying to solve a problem.

I could go on forever on this subject, but I feel that there is a lot more to say on other issues and I want to keep your attention.
